About Erica

Meet your Career Design Consultant™.

Erica Nye, Career Design Consultant and founder of The Career Design Studio, working from her desk with laptop and bookshelf in background.

I started The Career Design Studio™ to offer students the kind of support I wish I had at 16.

Not just a list of careers. Not just a test result. A structured space to think through options, understand themselves, and build a plan that feels grounded.

With more than a decade of experience supporting students and young professionals, I have seen how overwhelming post-secondary decisions can feel for both students and parents. My work combines trusted assessments, structured planning, and one on one sessions that help students sort through uncertainty and move toward decisions with more confidence.

In my work with adults, a common theme is that many never had a structured way to assess fit when they were younger. They often chose programs based on pressure, comparison, or what seemed practical, rather than a clear understanding of themselves. I see every day how much direction and confidence can grow when people finally have a framework for making decisions that match who they are. Helping students build that skill earlier is a core reason I created this program.

Every Career Design session is led by me, Erica Nye, Career Design Consultant™ and Founder of The Career Design Studio™. My approach is practical and steady, designed to meet students where they are, whether they are choosing a program, shifting directions, or trying to make sense of what comes next.

This work is not about pushing students toward a path. It is about helping them build one that fits.

My background spans work in both education and mental health. I have supported students and families through a government youth and family agency, where I helped parents and teens navigate complex challenges, and in an independent school for students with learning differences, where I worked as a counsellor, post-secondary advisor, and co-taught BC’s graduation required Career-Life Education (CLE) course.

These experiences taught me that career decisions never happen in isolation. They are shaped by a student’s well-being, family dynamics, access to support, and the pressures they are carrying. Again and again, I have seen how students thrive when they are given not only resources but also consistent guidance and space to sort through their own thinking.

Direction and confidence develop through guided support and a structured process, not a single conversation.

I bring training in both career development and clinical counselling, which helps me understand the full picture of what students and families are navigating. I hold a Master’s in Counselling Psychology from Adler University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from The University of British Columbia. I am certified in the MBTI® (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator®) and Strong Interest Inventory®, two of the most trusted tools for understanding personality and career alignment.

At the heart of my work is a belief that every student deserves a process that helps them understand themselves, compare options realistically, and plan their next steps with purpose. Whether you are a parent hoping to ease your teen’s stress or a student trying to make sense of your choices, The Career Design Studio™ offers a structured and supportive space to do that work.
